GREEN Eagles are steadily turning their season around and now look firmly on course for a top-four finish as they prepare to host Zesco United in a rescheduled Week 20 fixture of the MTN Super League.

The Choma-based side welcome the Ndola giants to Independence Stadium today, buoyed by a string of impressive performances that have seen them climb the league table after a difficult start to the campaign.

Eagles struggled in the early stages of the season as a newly assembled squad under coach Perry Mutapa battled to find cohesion. Results were inconsistent, and at one point, the team appeared destined for a relegation fight.

However, the second round has told a completely different story.

Mutapa’s philosophy has begun to take shape, with the team combining attractive attacking play with renewed defensive discipline.

The improvement has translated into crucial points, lifting Eagles from the lower end of the table into genuine contention for a top-four finish.

Their resurgence was highlighted last weekend when they secured a vital victory over Mufulira Wanderers in Choma, a result that strengthened their push up the standings.

While Eagles, in sixth position with 47 points are riding a wave of momentum, today’s encounter presents a significant challenge.

Zesco are in Choma seeking to salvage pride after a turbulent season that has fallen short of expectations.

Once perennial title contenders, Zesco have endured a campaign marked by inconsistency in the league and disappointment in continental football, having failed to make an impact in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Off the pitch, the club has also faced administrative setbacks, including a brief suspension following disputes over their exclusion from the Absa Cup.

Now sitting mid-table, Zesco are under pressure to finish strongly and rebuild ahead of the next season.

With experienced figures guiding the team, they will be eager to upset Eagles’ top-four ambitions and restore some pride.

For Eagles, the stakes could not be higher. A win would further cement their remarkable turnaround and edge them closer to a place among the league’s elite.

As both sides take to the field, the clash promises intensity and purpose - Eagles chasing a dream resurgence, and Zesco fighting to rediscover their identity.
